LUCKNOW: Two minor girls died after heavy rains led to
wall collapse early Monday morning in Sitapur district, and injuried a 60-year-old man.
The incident occurred around 4 am when a mud wall of a village house suddenly caved in Sidhauli area, bringing down the thatched roof placed over it. The debris trapped three members of a family — Chandni (14), Shivasi (12), and their grandfather Rampal (60) — as they were sleeping under the makeshift roof.
All three were rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in critical condition.
However, doctors declared Chandni and Shivasi dead upon arrival, said SHO, Sidhauli, Balwant Shahi.
Rampal survived with injuries and is stated to be out of danger.
According to local sources, both girls were sleeping beside their grandfather when the wall collapsed without warning.
The family is devastated by the loss.
Meanwhile, in view of continuous rainfall and safety concerns, district authorities have declared closure of schools in six districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Apart from Lucknow, schools in Raebareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Bahraich, and Ambedkar Nagar will remain shut as per orders issued by respective District Magistrates.
The official notification urges strict compliance with the directive, citing student safety as top priority amid deteriorating weather conditions.
