Lucknow: A speeding tractor-trolley rammed a motorcycle killing three, including a six-year-old girl, in Barabanki’s
Deva area in the early hours of Wednesday. The victims were returning from a family function in Lucknow and the accident occurred near Gopalpur turn around 12.30am.
According to police, the victims attended a wedding anniversary celebration in Lucknow and were heading back to their village on two motorcycles. Nirmal Kumar, who was riding one of the bikes with his wife and child riding pillion, said he was ahead of the other bike when the accident took place.
Following close behind on another motorcycle was Brajendra Kumar (22), with his mother Sudha Devi (50) and Nirmal’s daughter Naina (6) riding pillion.
As they approached Gopalpur turn, a speeding tractor-trolley hit Brajendra’s motorcycle from behind, throwing all three occupants onto the road. Family members said Sudha Devi and the child were run over by the vehicle after the collision.
All three suffered critical injuries. Locals alerted police and the injured were taken to the community health centre in Deva, where doctors declared Brajendra and Sudha dead on arrival.
Naina was referred to the district hospital but succumbed to injuries during treatment.
The crash left a trail of debris, with the mangled motorcycle and personal belongings scattered across the road.
Police reached the spot soon after being alerted and sent the bodies for post mortem. The tractor-trolley driver fled with the vehicle after the accident.
Additional SHO Rohit Shukla said a case was registered and teams were deployed to trace the vehicle and arrest the absconding driver.
