Lucknow: A moderate voter turnout of 42.38% was recorded in the byelections to vacant posts in urban local bodies across Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.Polling was held for a councillor’s post in Prayagraj Municipal Corporation, president posts in Katra nagar panchayat in Shahjahanpur district and Fazilnagar nagar panchayat in Kushinagar, and for nagar palika parishad and nagar panchayat members in Etawah, Badaun, Barabanki, Baghpat, Gonda, Mirzapur and Gautam Budh Nagar.

According to official data, 32,816 voters cast their votes out of the total electorate of 77,426, covering 83 wards.The highest turnout of 67.66% was recorded in Jewar nagar panchayat in Gautam Budh Nagar, while the lowest voting was reported from Alopibagh ward of Prayagraj Municipal Corporation, where only 22.15% of voters exercised their franchise.Fazilnagar nagar panchayat poll in Kushinagar registered a turnout of 53.18%, outperforming Katra nagar panchayat, which recorded 41.64% polling.For election of members in urban bodies in Subeha in Barabanki, the turnout was 54.11%, while in Colonelganj in Gonda, voting ranged between 49.15% and 55.19% across wards.Badaun (44.05%) and Mirzapur (40.97%) remained close to the state average, indicating a mixed response across districts.
