AKTU to train students in tai chi, kung fu
Lucknow: Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) will now train its students in the Chinese martial arts of kung fu and tai chi as part of its self-defence programme.
The Kung Fu Federation of India and the Uttar Pradesh Kung Fu Association will jointly train students in these disciplines. According to AKTU officials, kung fu and tai chi will help nurture students into disciplined athletes, healthy citizens and contributors to a stronger nation.
“Kung fu is a martial art rooted in India’s ancient self-defence discipline, kalaripayattu as well as in spirituality and Ashtanga Yoga. It is one of the world’s oldest and most popular self-defence disciplines. It is relatively easy to learn and the risk of injury in competitions is minimal. Regular practice of this art not only improves concentration but also helps in the management and treatment of various ailments,” said an AKTU official.
The official said that learning this art is essential, and the university will soon begin training students in these sports. Over time, trained students will also be able to participate in various national and international competitions, bringing glory to Uttar Pradesh at both the national and global levels. The initiative will also support the government’s Fit India mission.
