LUCKNOW: Nearly a month after Amethi district police arrested Anant Vikram Sinh, a BJP leader and son of Congress Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Sinh on charges of murder, attempt to murder, rioting and criminal conspiracy, among other sections of the IPC, his family is set to move the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high Court seeking his bail.
Members of the family also maintained that Sinh was being “framed” as a part of a larger conspiracy plotted by Congress’ Ameeta Sinh to coerce Garima Sinh and the rest of the estranged family to vacate Bhupati Bhawan.
Sinh was picked up on July 4 and sent into judicial custody after the chief judicial magistrate issued a non-bailable warrant against the BJP leader on June 16. He was also charged under Section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1932, for attempting to restrict the entry of his father Sanjay Sinh and Ameeta Sinh into Bhupati Bhawan, the Amethi palace which is part of the family property. Speaking to TOI, members of the family confirmed to TOI that Sinh’s bail hearing was first scheduled to be held on July 21, but was rejected. The family is now moving the high court to plead for Anant Vikram’s bail.
The newly-minted BJP leader was picked up from a temple outside Bhupati Bhawan while accompanied by his younger sister and children in the family. Following his arrest and subsequent appearance in court, the Amethi prince was sent to judicial custody in Sultanpur district jail.
Constable Vijay Kumar Mishra was gunned down on September 14 last year during a bloody battle being waged over possession of the Amethi palace. On one hand, Anant Vikram and Rani Garima Sinh, his mother and Sanjay Sinh’s wife, have claimed legal rights over the heritage Amethi palace. On the other, Sanjay Sinh and Ameeta have termed Anant Vikram’s occupancy of Bhupati Bhawan as illegal, and repeatedly sought their ouster by the district administration.
On the day Mishra was shot dead, Sinh and Ameeta had announced they would enter the palace. Local residents, alleged supporters of Rani Garima Sinh, had, however, surrounded the palace and said they would not allow Ameeta entry. The mob turned violent after the police barricaded the areas around the palace and Mishra was killed by a stray bullet. Anant Vikram and seven other persons were booked on charges of murder, rioting and criminal conspiracy.
