Lucknow: Come November and the basic education department will organise a state-level sports meet, after a hiatus of three years.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the sports meet aimed at encouraging and popularizing sports among school goers. Issuing directives to district level officers, basic education director Shubha Singh said the best students of district and divisional-level competitions will participate in the state-level competition.

She asked officers to ensure completion of sports events from school till divisional level by the first week of November. Director-general school education Vijay Kiran Anand said, “The state-level sports competition is special because we are looking for talent and not just a competitive event. Talented students will further become part of the ambitious plan of the government’s Khelo India.”
Anand said for the first time, the sports competition will be held according to Khelo India standards. The winners will get prize money as well as incentives from the government. Officials said the government is continuously striving to promote sports in the state and is also working on a sports policy. The sports events will include cricket, football, kho-kho as well as individual track and field competitions. The CM has on many occasions laid stress on the need for finding sport talents at the foundational level and developing them. “If students with sporting skills get the right guidance from the start, they will be able to perform better. on big platforms and make the state and country proud,” the CM said.
