LUCKNOW: A delegation of the Congress met governor Anandiben Patel on Wednesday to draw her attention towards the alleged ‘inhumane arrest and detention of UP state president Ajay Kumar Lallu’. Led by Congress legislative party (CLP) leader Aradhana Mishra Mona, the delegation submitted a representation to the governor and sought her intervention ‘to bring relief to the innocent party chief’.

Lallu was arrested on May 21 for an alleged forgery of documents related to buses that his party had arranged for ferrying stranded migrant workers. His bail plea was rejected by the MP-MLA special court on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, Mishra said: “We told the governor that state Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu is a victim of political vendetta. A baseless case has been registered against him while he is being denied his right to seek bail.”
Echoing the chorus, former Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tewari and former MLA Naseemuddin Siddiqui added that “Lallu, who has been elected MLA twice, is a law abiding citizen. He does not deserve the way he was arrested and sent to jail.”
The delegation also included Amethi MLC Deepak Singh and RK Chaudhary. They said that the party has moved the high court to seek bail for the leader.
Congress biggies, including former party president Rahul Gandhi and national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, have been raising voice for release of Lallu.
