LUCKNOW: The Opposition in Vidhan Sabha led a multi-pronged attack on the ruling BJP over the death of a Dalit girl in Agra who was set ablaze by bike-borne youths.
It also slammed the government over the discovery of 126 shivlings, allegedly from debris of a building being demolished in Varanasi for the corridor of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor.
While Congress legislative leader Ajay Kumar Lallu accused BJP of hypocrisy, saying it seeks Ram Temple and promotes its Hindutva face by raking up controversies over religion but was not concerned on the upkeep of articles of faith which are not in prominence.
The KVC flagship project is being jointly administered by the government and the temple trust.
The Varanasi Police has already seized the Shivlings and registered an FIR on the complaint of former Congress MLA Ajay Rai
Congress MLAs, including Aradhna Mishra, Rakesh Singh, Aditi Singh and Sohail Akhtar Ansari, sought an apology from CM Yogi Adityanath and deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.
Later, SP's Saharanpur MLA Sanjay Garg and Gauriganj legislator Rakesh Pratap Singh, too, took on BJP during the speech on supplementary budget, saying it was not in control of law and order situation despite frequently holding encounters in the state with the criminals.
"Every day, either a girl is raped or molested. If that doesn't shame government, a 15-year-old Dalit girl dies while DGP is holding a meeting in a hotel 500 footsteps away," said Singh.
Such is the courage of criminals under this CM because the party is focused on elaborating on caste identity of gods and deities and renaming districtis," he added.
