Dialysis facilities now available across all 75 UP districts: DyCM
Lucknow: Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak on Saturday said dialysis facilities have now been made available across all 75 districts of the state, improving access to treatment for patients suffering from kidney ailments.
Addressing the 39th foundation day programme of the nephrology department at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Pathak said the state govt was expanding super-speciality healthcare services and strengthening kidney transplant facilities to ensure better treatment closer to patients’ homes.
Speaking at the event organised on the theme 'From Vision to Reality: Replicating Successful Deceased Donor Transplantation Models Across Uttar Pradesh', Pathak said, ‘"Nearly 2 lakh Indians develop critical kidney diseases every year, many of whom require dialysis or kidney transplantation. Free dialysis is being provided while ICU and super-speciality facilities are also being expanded." He added that new medical colleges were being opened in districts to reduce burden on tertiary hospitals.
Pathak also appealed to people to spread awareness about organ donation, saying one brain-dead donor could save up to eight lives. Donor families from Lucknow and Madhya Pradesh were honoured for agreeing to organ donation after brain death declaration. “Organ donation is one of the noblest forms of humanity as it gives critically ill patients a second chance at life,” he said.
Head, nephrology, Prof Narayan Prasad said nearly 24,000 deaths occured annually in UP due to road accidents and even if 1% of such cases resulted in organ donation, the state could facilitate hundreds of kidney, liver and heart transplants every year.
Additional chief secretary, medical education, Amit Kumar Ghosh stressed the need for sustained public awareness campaigns and transparent organ allocation systems to strengthen deceased donor transplantation programmes in the state.
SGPGI director Prof RK Dhiman said successful organ donation models implemented in states such as Tamil Nadu and Gujarat could be replicated in UP through coordinated healthcare systems, institutional support and public participation.
Faculty members, resident doctors, nursing officers, dialysis staff, technicians and supporting personnel of the nephrology department were also felicitated .
