LUCKNOW: Some genes in the body are responsible for cardiac disease especially blockage of arteries relatively at an early age, and if doctors at SGPGI are to be believed, then 60% of people suffer from cardiac diseases because of diabetes, cholesterol, tobacco consumption and excess weight but 40% have heart ailments due to some unknown reasons. "Genes like Lipoprotein- A and ace gene polymorphism are responsible for heart attack in 40% people. They suffer cardiac ailments at least 10 years earlier than other heart patients. People with a history of heart diseases should remain careful about their health, as they are also at risk," said Dr Satyendra Tewari of cardiology department of SGPGI.
Various unknown reasons behind heart ailments, their treatments and new techniques in terms of the management of the disease would be discussed at the 19th annual scientific conference and CSI UP Charter Cardicon- 2013 to be held on Saturday and Sunday at SGPGI. Nearly 400 cardiologists from all over the country and few from abroad would participate in it. The theme of the discussion would be 'implementing evidence based guidelines in clinical practice'.
In another development, the cardiology department of SGPGI plans to launch ambulance service especially for heart patients. In the special cardiac ambulance service, ECG would be connected with the internet, so that the report could be sent immediately to the expert sitting in the hospital. As primary facilities would be available in the ambulance, paramedical staff can start the treatment. When the patient will reach the hospital, doctors would be immediately able to start the operation. Under the proposal, the special ambulance will be parked at a prominent place of the city and a toll-free number will be released for taking the benefit of the ambulance in case of emergency.
