Heatwave: CM reviews preparedness, orders uninterrupted power supply
Lucknow: With temperatures expected to rise by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in several parts of the state over the coming days, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday directed district magistrates of all 75 districts to remain on high alert and maintain uninterrupted electricity supply.
Appealing to the public to cover their heads while stepping out during the afternoon, Yogi reviewed the arrangements being made to provide relief from the severe heatwave conditions expected to grip Uttar Pradesh and other northern states on May 19, 20 and 21.
The India Meteorological Department has already issued an orange alert, warning district administrations and relief agencies about the impending situation.
Setting up shaded shelters near busy intersections has been listed as a key priority in the 17 cities governed by municipal corporations. Yogi also sought details of beds, emergency healthcare infrastructure and ambulances deployed to provide immediate treatment to people suffering from heatstroke and other heat-related ailments.
The Chief Minister's Office directed officials to ensure the availability of clean drinking water in crowded areas and asked power department staff to remain on alert to maintain uninterrupted electricity supply. “Faults and power breakdowns must be taken seriously, and supply should be restored at the earliest in residential areas,” a senior govt officer said.
“People should remain indoors during the afternoon, particularly between noon and 4 pm, when temperatures peak. Wearing light clothing and staying hydrated are equally important,” the officer added.
