Lawyers go on 3-day strike
Lucknow: The Central Bar Association, Lucknow, on Sunday announced a three-day collective strike by lawyers across Lucknow district courts in protest against the alleged police lathicharge on advocates during a demolition-related clash earlier in the day.
The decision was taken during an emergency general body meeting chaired by Central Bar Association president Akhilesh Jaiswal.
According to the resolution passed unanimously by thousands of advocates present at the meeting, all lawyers practising in Lucknow district courts will remain on complete strike from May 18-20.
It also announced that another general body meeting will be convened on May 20 at 2 pm, in which office-bearers of all bar associations in Lucknow district will be invited.
Central Bar Association authorised president Akhilesh Jaiswal and general secretary Avneesh Dixit to intervene in the matter pending before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court.
Another proposal passed during the meeting stated that advocates injured in the alleged lathicharge and admitted to hospitals would be provided financial assistance.
The resolutions have been forwarded to the district judge, chief judicial magistrate, divisional commissioner, district magistrate and office-bearers of several bar associations and tribunals across Lucknow for implementation and support.
