Owaisi to launch AIMIM’s UP poll campaign from Bahraich on June 14
Lucknow: President of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Asaduddin Owaisi will launch his party’s poll campaign for the 2027 assembly elections in the state with a public meeting in Bahraich on June 14.
Owaisi will first visit the Dargah of Syed Salar Masood Ghazi before addressing a public meeting near Shankarpur intersection of the district’s Matera assembly constituency, which is presently represented by Samajwadi Party MLA Mariya Shah.
AIMIM state president Shauquat Ali confirmed his party chief’s visit to Bahraich and public meeting schedule while talking to the media.
Describing the event as the launch of AIMIM’s 2027 poll campaign, Shaukat Ali said the party plans to contest around 200 seats if it goes solo and does not enter any political alliance.
Asked about the possible alliance and choices on the table before AIMIM, Shauquat said, “Our natural alliance, if we were to forge one, would be with the BSP. Muslims and Dalits together account for nearly 40% of the vote share, enough to defeat both the SP and BJP.”
In 2022, AIMIM contested 96 assembly seats, mostly the Muslim-dominated ones. In 2017, the party contested 38 seats. Though the party fared well in the local body polls before both the assembly elections, it failed to open its account in the state assembly.
