Man accused of molesting sisters arrested after police encounter in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur

SULTANPUR: A 27-year-old man accused of molesting two sisters was arrested following a police encounter in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district late on Wednesday night, officials said.The accused, identified as Mohammad Asif (27), was apprehended near the Ahmat airstrip area after police received information about his whereabouts. A joint team of local police and the district's Special Operations Group (SOG) launched an operation to nab him.Additional Superintendent of Police Brij Narayan Singh said the incident took place late Wednesday night in the Ahmat airstrip area."The accused opened fire at the police team, following which police retaliated in self-defence. He sustained a bullet injury in his right leg," Singh said.A case had already been registered against Asif in connection with the alleged molestation of two sisters on June 9. The women were reportedly returning home when the incident took place.During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to his involvement in the case. Further investigation is underway.(With PTI inputs)
