Drunk man calls police over missing 250 grams of potatoes in UP's Hardoi
HARDOI: In a bizarre incident in Hardoi district, a man reportedly called the police after discovering that 250 grams of potatoes were missing from his home. Not only did he insist on reporting the "theft," but he also demanded an investigation and urged the police to catch the alleged culprit.
The incident unfolded on the eve of Diwali, as police were already on high alert. The Uttar Pradesh emergency helpline (UP-112) received an unusual call from a resident reporting a potato theft. The police team promptly responded, but upon reaching the scene, they were baffled by the nature of the complaint.
Vijay Verma, the complainant and a resident of Mannapurwa, informed UP-112 that a small quantity of potatoes was missing from his home. Upon questioning, Verma explained that he peeled the potatoes intending to cook them after his meal. However, upon returning, he found the potatoes missing.
When officers asked about the quantity, they were told it was merely 250 grams. They recorded a 55-second video of the interaction, wherein Verma insisted, "This is what needs to be investigated." The police inquired if he was drinking, to which Verma candidly admitted, "Yes, I work hard all day and have a small drink in the evening. But this isn't about alcohol; it's about the missing potatoes."
The video went viral on social media, invoking mixed reactions from people. Some appreciated the police for their promptness, while others advocated for a better system to prevent wasting police resources on such absurd acts.
