Tender for construction of corridor at Vasantkunj depot
Lucknow: After inviting bids for the elevated stretch between Vasantkunj and Thakurganj, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) on Thursday floated the tender for the construction of the corridor's advanced depot at Vasantkunj for the upcoming East-West corridor of Lucknow Metro. The depot, estimated to cost Rs 150 crore, will be a key facility for train maintenance, inspection and stabling. Designed on the model of the existing Transport Nagar depot, it will incorporate modern, technology-driven features to support safe and efficient metro operations.
Facility will house systems such as the pit wheel lathe machine for wheel profile maintenance, fully automatic synchronized pit and mobile jack machines for lifting operations, bogie turn tables, automatic train washing plants, electric bogie shunters and re-railing and rescue vehicles. These systems will ensure that trains on the East-West Corridor remain reliable and operationally fit. Environmental sustainability will be central to the depot's design. Like the North-South corridor depot, it will feature solar power generation units, zero-discharge technology, dual-plumbing systems, a sewage treatment plant (STP), an effluent treatment plant (ETP) and a combined STP-ETP unit for efficient land and energy use. A comprehensive water storage system will support daily operations and emergency requirements. UPMRC managing director Sushil Kumar said the floating of the second major tender and the acceleration of pre-construction works demonstrate steady progress toward the corridor's implementation. The 12-km East-West Corridor will run from Charbagh to Vasantkunj, featuring seven underground stations between Charbagh and Chowk and five elevated stations from Thakurganj to Vasantkunj. The project, estimated at Rs 5,801.05 crore, is expected to be completed within five years of construction commencement.
