LUCKNOW: Ram Babu Nishad's tale of woes didn't end even on February 2, 2010, the day his son Pawan was killed allegedly in an encounter under Thakurganj police station area.
Pawan, according to the police, was a hardcore criminal and was killed in the encounter after he had eliminated Shanu, another criminal, under Kakori police station area following a gang war.

Pawan's mother Rama Devi lodged a complaint before the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) that police officials, including SO (Talkatora) Sudhir Pal Dhama, SO (Thakurganj) Abhishek Sirohi, the then circle officer Anoop Kumar Singh and SP (west) BP Ashok killed Pawan in a fake encounter.
Strangely, the weapon claimed to have been recovered from the possession of Pawan did not have cartridges, besides the motorcycle on which he was claimed to have been fleeing did not have petrol.
Pawan's encounter took place at around 3.30 am. Just one and a half hour later at 5 am, Ram Babu's younger brother Bankelal was picked up allegedly by Talkatora and Thakurganj police from his Gau Ghat village residence under Thakurganj police station area.
Following this, Bankelal's wife Geeta sent a telegram to top police officials narrating her woes. Failing to get any response from anywhere, Geeta and Rama Devi both sent another telegram on February 4 to the top police officials.
Ram Babu claimed that his brother was first kept at Dubagga police station for around four days and was later sent to Talkatora police station. It was here that Bankelal was booked under NDPS Act. He was released from the court after two months, Ram Babu claimed.

Interestingly, ASP SHRC Investigative Wing Jugul Kishore in his report found police officials prima-facie guilty of illegally detaining Bankelal for four days and allegedly booking him under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotroic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Talking to TOI, Ram Babu said after the SHRC decision, at least three times policemen have come to his house. Since he was not at his house on all the occasions, the policemen told his children that he has to give a statement on some issue and sign the same.
The cops told the family members that they had come from Thakurganj police station, claimed Ram Babu.
Once bitten twice shy, Ram Babu said: "I am planning to knock at the SHRC's door again in a day or two and inform the commission in writing about the policemen's visit to his house."
