LUCKNOW: A man was found dead on Monday morning near the Aami river in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district, with his hands and legs tied and his throat slit, police said.
According to news agency PTI, villagers spotted a sack lying near the riverbank close to the Semrahwa Baba temple in Bharsand around 7am and alerted police.
On opening the sack, police found the body of a man believed to be around 30 years old, with visible injury marks on his neck and ropes tied around his limbs.
Police suspect the victim was killed elsewhere and later dumped near the riverbank in an attempt to conceal his identity and mislead the investigation.
A police team, along with forensic experts, reached the spot and began collecting evidence. Investigators are also scanning missing person reports from nearby villages and police stations to establish the identity of the deceased.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
SP (North) Gyanendra Nath Prasad said further action would be taken based on the post-mortem report and investigation findings. He added that police are probing all possible angles in the case.
