LUCKNOW: Seeing the rush of students towards traditional courses like BCom and BA, the Lucknow University has decided to increase the number of seats in its various affiliated colleges in the city. University spokesperson S K Dwivedi said, "A lot of colleges have demanded the increase in seats in BCom and BA. But not all are approved. Only those fulfilling our criteria have been provided with additional seats."
Out of many colleges which have demanded extra seats in BCom, six have been approved by the vice-chancellor, and thus, the seats have been increased.

These colleges are - Navyug Kanya Degree College (80 seats), Ammiruddaula Islamia Degree College (50), Rama Degree College (160), BSNV PG College (80), IT College (60) and Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan (60).
"There was an urgent need to increase the seats so as to accommodate more students. This was done keeping in mind that the students do not suffer any loss," said Dwivedi.
However, there has been no increase in the number of seats in colleges like Gyanoday Degree College, Mahila Mahavidyalya Degree College, Ramadheen Degree College, Eram Girls' Degre College and Gurunanak Girls' Degree College. Reason: Lack of infrastrucute and approved faculty.
Besides, 100 BA seats have been increased in Khun Khun Ji Girls' Degree College, while 60 more seats have been added for BSc (Ag) course in Chandra Bhanu Gupt Krishi Degree College.
120 BA seats have been given to Lala Mahadeo Prasad Degree College. Shia PG College, which had sought additional seats for BA, BCom, BSc, has got 60 seats each for BSc maths and biology groups.
Sharing the criteria on which the colleges will get confirmation on the additional seats, the university spokesperson said, "There were three main considerations on the basis of which the colleges have been allotted more seats. First, the faculty should be selected by the selection committee and approved by the vice-chancellor. Second consideration was infrastructure which includes classrooms and other facilities. A special attention was paid to the libraries of the colleges which became our third factor."
