‘Ek Pehal’ by UP 112 a big success
Lucknow: The ‘Ek Pehal' initiative, launched by UP-112 on August 12, aimed at fostering community policing and increasing citizens' awareness to help others, concluded successfully after 107 days. The campaign, inaugurated by DGP Prashant Kumar, saw remarkable participation, with a total of 88,447 calls made to UP-112 across the state. Of these, the highest number—86,341 calls—were for police assistance, showing the immense reliance on UP-112 for emergency support.
The initiative proved to be a game-changer, with citizens stepping up in times of crisis to help others. One notable case occurred in Sept when a vigilant citizen saved a man from a kidnapping in Baghpat. The citizen witnessed four individuals attacking a man near a car and immediately alerted UP-112. The Police Response Vehicle (PRV) swiftly responded, apprehended the accused, and rescued the victim, Satpal, who was sent for medical treatment. The accused, Rahul and Lalit from Gurugram, Haryana, had prior kidnapping cases registered against them in Haryana. This is just one example of how proactive citizens played a crucial role in ensuring justice and saving lives.
At the closing ceremony, 20 alert citizens who made significant contributions by helping to save lives were felicitated. UP-112 ADGP Neera Rawat emphasised that the campaign's purpose was to inspire citizens to become more sensitive to the problems of others and act promptly in emergencies. She added that all the details of the callers remain confidential, ensuring their privacy and safety.
