UP making youth industry-ready to achieve $1 trillion economy goal: Minister
Lucknow: Vocational education, skill development and entrepreneurship minister Kapil Dev Aggarwal on Tuesday praised institutions such as Tata Technologies and Deloitte for supporting world-class training and employment opportunities for Uttar Pradesh’s youth.
Chairing a meeting with representatives of both companies, Aggarwal said the state was working to add new dimensions to skill development and technical education to accelerate its goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy.
Representatives of Tata Technologies briefed the minister on Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) being upgraded as Centres of Excellence (CoEs). They said the initiative was equipping institutes with modern machinery, e-learning platforms, automation tools and Industry 4.0-based technologies to train students in line with current and future industry requirements. The focus, they added, was to help youth secure jobs not only within India but also in international markets.
Deloitte’s team presented an assessment of the strategic role of vocational education in achieving the $1 trillion target. Citing future job trends and industry demand, Deloitte recommended linking skill schemes directly with industrial investments and emerging technologies to expand employment and self-employment avenues.
The meeting also stressed strengthening programmes through the public-private partnership model. Aggarwal said the aim was to create industry-ready professionals and position Uttar Pradesh as the country’s largest skill capital.
