LUCKNOW: A 35-year-old property dealer was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in the Kalli Paschim market area under the PGI police station limits in Lucknow on Wednesday, triggering panic among local residents and shopkeepers.
The attackers fled the scene immediately after the incident, while police teams launched an intensive search operation and began examining CCTV footage to identify those involved.
The victim has been identified as Sandeep Singh (35), a native of Jaunpur who currently lives with his family near Kalindi Park in Lucknow and works in the property business.
According to preliminary information, Sandeep had reached his office at Yadav Market in Kalli Paschim around 1.30 pm on Wednesday along with his driver, Pradeep Singh, police said.
Witnesses said Sandeep had just stepped out of his vehicle and was walking towards his office when two masked assailants riding a motorcycle suddenly arrived at the spot.
Before anyone nearby could react, the accused allegedly opened fire at him three times from close range.
The sudden firing created panic in the market area, with local shopkeepers and passersby running for safety. Sandeep collapsed on the road after sustaining gunshot injuries, while the attackers fled the scene waving pistols.
People nearby immediately rushed the injured property dealer to Apex Trauma Centre for treatment.
According to doctors treating him, Sandeep sustained three bullet injuries after allegedly being shot from close range. Hospital sources said he later died during treatment.
After receiving information about the incident, police officials and forensic teams reached the spot and secured the crime scene.
Investigators reportedly recovered an empty bullet casing from the location. The forensic team collected evidence while police personnel cordoned off the area to assist the investigation.
Large crowds gathered at the scene soon after the firing incident, and police had to regulate movement in the area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) Amit Anand said teams were examining CCTV footage installed in and around the locality to establish the sequence of events and identify the attackers.
Police officials said investigators are probing the case from multiple angles, including possible property-related rivalry, although the exact reason behind the attack has not yet been established.
The search for the accused is ongoing and further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
