UP sets target to become global agri hub by 2047
Lucknow: The state govt is focusing on smart farming, modern technology and market-oriented policies to increase farm incomes and strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s agriculture sector, a senior govt official said on Sunday.
The govt has set a target of making Uttar Pradesh a global centre for sustainable, high-value and export-oriented agriculture by 2047. Officials said the plan includes increasing the production of food grains, pulses and oilseeds, expanding organic farming and reducing post-harvest losses.
According to govt data, Uttar Pradesh currently ranks first in the country in the production of food grains, wheat, potatoes, sugarcane, vegetables and honey. The state has also risen to second place nationally in agricultural Gross Value Added, or GVA, which stands at around Rs 4.66 lakh crore.
Officials said several agricultural indicators recorded growth between 2017 and 2025. Wheat production increased by 16%, food grain production by 17%, oilseed production by 34% and pulse production by 26% during the period.
The state govt is also focusing on crop diversification, expansion of irrigation and export-oriented farming. Micro-irrigation systems are being promoted to improve water-use efficiency. Govt figures show that the irrigated area in the state increased by 33%. The area under oilseed cultivation also recorded significant growth during the period.
