LUCKNOW: National vice-chairperson of All-India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) Subhashini Ali has called the population control Bill punitive action against the poor. It would also trigger violence against women, she added.
Talking to TOI, Ali, who was in Lucknow on Friday to give her recommendations on the Bill, said, “Neither will anyone be benefited nor would any goal of the government be fulfilled if the UP government accepts the law commission’s draft.
1x1 polls
Women will face violence with pressure for a male child. Tests to determine the sex of the fetus will also see an increase.”
Population control is a must, but the draft is not the solution. The government needs to strengthen health and education sectors, she said.
