Lucknow woman duped of Rs 35 lakh through fraudulent gaming app

A Lucknow woman, Bindu Sakal Ram, fell victim to a fraudulent gaming app called BigMumbai.app, losing over ₹35 lakh. Lured by promises of high returns, she invested in the Aviator game until her bank accounts were frozen.

LUCKNOW: A Gomtinagar-based woman suffering from lung fibrosis alleged that she was duped of over ₹35 lakh through a fraudulent gaming app, BigMumbai.app.The Cyber Crime Police Station in Lucknow registered an FIR based on her complaint.Bindu Sakal Ram stated she came across an ad for the app on Facebook, which promised high returns by playing games. She downloaded the app, registered using her mobile number, and linked her IDFC First Bank account.On Feb 21, 2024, she began playing a game called Aviator, where users exit a flying plane at the right time to win money. Encouraged by a message claiming she won ₹2 lakh, she continued investing in multiple transactions until March 30, 2025, cumulatively putting in ₹35.29 lakh.Initially, some money was credited back to her account, which she reinvested. After her IDFC account was frozen, she used her brother's Bandhan Bank account and ICICI Bank account to continue playing. Eventually, all linked accounts—including those in HDFC and Axis Bank—were frozen.Bindu also emailed the app's support but received no response. UPI IDs such as JKBMERC00661097@JKb were used to collect funds.SHO, Cyber Crime, Brijesh Yadav confirmed that an FIR was registered and a probe is underway.
