Lucknow: A 22-year-old woman was critically injured when an unknown man attacked her with a knife in the Madiaon police station area.
The assailant slashed her throat before fleeing the scene, abandoning his bike. The victim was rushed to the trauma centre, where her condition is reported to be critical.
According to police, Ruby, who was living alone with her mother and niece at the time, was attacked while her mother, Nasreen, was cleaning outside and her brother-in-law, Naseem, was away working. Ruby's 10-year-old niece, Ilma, who was present, recalled that around 11 am, a young man entered the house and suddenly attacked Ruby with a knife.
Despite her efforts to fight back, Ruby was overpowered by the attacker, who slashed her throat and also injured her chin and left arm.
A local resident Anuj Rajput informed the Madiaon police.
The investigation revealed that the attacker visited Ruby twice in the past week, which raises suspicions of a possible premeditated motive.
The motorcycle used in the crime was registered in the name of a woman residing in the BKT area, said additional DCP, North zone, JK Dubey.
The police are currently questioning the woman and have launched an extensive search for the suspect.
According to former Barabanki MLA Har Govind Singh, the house where Ruby and her family were staying belonged to him. Singh revealed that Ruby's mother, Nasreen, worked as a cleaning staff for him. Two years ago, Nasreen's hut was destroyed during an anti-encroachment drive, and as a result, Singh offered her the vacant house in Shankarpurwa village to stay there.
