Case of the missing file: Frantic search on for elusive land records

Ludhiana: All is not well in the MC building branch, where records pertaining to many important cases have gone missing. The case of several missing files related to records of the controversial building of a Congress leader in Gandhi Nagar has still not been solved. Now, there is talk of records related to Upkar Nagar Dussehra Ground going missing.
On Friday, the entire staff of the MC Zone-D building branch was seen struggling to trace the file of records related to Upkar Nagar Dussehra Ground. The frantic search took precedence over all other work.
Official sources said that some people claimed ownership of the Dussehra Ground land in Upkar Nagar and a case is pending in court. The MC commissioner was also summoned in court recently in this regard. Sources said that as per MC records, the land of Upkar Nagar Dussehra Ground is a park site, under the rightful ownership of the civic body. On this contention, the court ordered the MC to present records of the area in question.
When senior officials asked officers of the building branch for records of the site, they did not find the file in the office. This has landed employees and officers, who have to present the file in court, in a quandary. A building branch official said that it would not be appropriate to say that the file related to Upkar Nagar Dussehra Ground was lost as efforts were being made to trace it. He added that since records of the area were very old, the file must be buried somewhere under other files. Meanwhile, everyone at the branch is searching for the elusive file.
