DC opens Miyawaki Forest Project in city

Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik inaugurated a Miyawaki Forest Project in Ludhiana on Friday. The project has been supported by the district administration and Prime Steels Processors, and aims to make Ludhiana green and reduce environmental pollution. 8200 trees were planted under the drive. Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik said that the Japanese technique of Miyawaki Forestation is adopted for this project, which ensures denser growth of plants and better absorption of carbon dioxide. She said that such a mini forest would be a milestone in reducing greenhouse gases and making the environment healthier. The public is urged to plant saplings and make efforts to protect the environment.

Ludhiana: With an aim to enhance the green cover, protect air, water and check environmental pollution, deputy commissioner Surabhi Malik on Friday inaugurated Miyawaki Forest Project in the industrial area of the city. The project has been supported by EcoSikh in association with the district administration, and Prime Steels Processors.
Addressing the gathering, deputy commissioner Surabhi Malik said that this move was aimed to make Ludhiana green and 8,200 trees were planted under the drive.

She said that the Japanese technique Miyawaki method was adopted for afforestation, which ensures denser growth of plants and hence better carbon-dioxide absorption. She said that such a mini forest would be in fact a milestone in reducing greenhouse gases and making the environment healthy.
Malik exhorted the people to plant saplings and called that it is the bounden duty of everybody to make efforts for protecting the environment and giving a better future to the next generations. The DC added that if the public ensures the proper upkeep of saplings, Ludhiana will become the greenest city of the country.
