LUDHIANA: Payal Police has booked a “liquor smuggler” and his accomplice after he opened fire on a person following him to know where they were going to deliver the illegal liquor. The accused was identified as Jaskaran Singh of Nanakpur Jagera and his seven to eight accomplices are yet to be identified.
Kulwinder Singh of Khatra in Samrala told police that he works with Avinash contractor and they from sources got information that some liquor smugglers are coming to the village in Payal area in a Toyota Corolla vehicle bearing number PB10BT-0201 to sell illegal liquor.
He added that he took his Scorpio vehicle and went to the area to know about the liquor smugglers and where they were to unload the consignment .
The complainant said that when he went from Payal to Kadowal area, he found that the same Toyota Corolla and Scorpio vehicle with the illegal liquor smugglers in them were coming from Shahpur village link road and later Toyota vehicle stopped on the road after hitting something. He added that after that two to three accused got down from the vehicle and they recognized that one of them was Jaskaran Singh of Nanakpur Jagera, whom they knew as a liquor smuggler.
Kulwinder Singh further said that after getting down, the accused fired at the vehicle they were in and the bullet hit on one side of their vehicle. He added that after that the accused fled from the spot along with accomplice but left his vehicle on the spot after which he informed police. On being informed, cops from Payal police station reached the spot and started probe into the matter. Police later recovered 17 boxes of liquor from the Dickey of the vehicle and seized the same and also found an empty cartridge of 315 bore weapon from the spot.
