LUDHIANA: Film afficionados got a glimpse of the forthcoming movie, Chhevan Dariya, that depicts the real Punjab and tells about the contrasting aspects of life here. Produced by US-based Punjabi producer and director and casting Punjabi singer Lakhwinder Wadali, it deals with the rampart drug abuse and how the youths are getting trapped in this vice.
Portraying a true but grim picture of the state, director Ish Amitoj Kaur, who is here in the city, says the movie focuses on what went wrong with the state which had everything but was slowly falling prey to drugs.
The youths were once known for their entrepreneurship skills that helped in the building of a prosperous state. But they are now getting involved in drugs and alcohol.
Hence the title which means the "sixth river". The son of famous sufi singer Puranchan Wadali, Lakhwinder Wadali, says, "It is sad that our youth who have so much of capability are falling prey to alcohol and drugs. These have ruined many families."
Lakhwinder, who has also rendered a song in the film along with father, adds, "The song highlights the problems being faced by the people." Hoping that the movie would be able to pull the crowds, he says it would create awareness among the masses.
