LUDHIANA: Traffic snarls in Ludhiana continue to irk residents around the city, with the traffic police failing to control it. In a hurry to reach people across the city, the traffic police did made a Facebook profile, but could not keep up with the work required for it. Even after a thousand 'likes', the pages are getting comments like "Page is abandoned and nobody looks after it."
A few days ago, when TOI reported about heavy trucks and trollies moving around the city during restricted hours, leading to traffic snarls and sometimes even accidents, a few residents posted pictures on the Facebook page, but no action was taken.
Trucks and trollies are moving fearlessly during restricted hours around the city. Not just this. Residents are even irritated by the fact that whatever complaints they post, the authorities never respond to that. Gagan Arora of Sarabha Nagar, said: "One of my friends was challaned even after putting on seat belts by one of the traffic policemen," but at the same time, when another man crossed the red light, he was let off when he said: "Just check the camera recording. I have not crossed the red light."
It is to be noted that this official page of the traffic police was created on March 30 last year. Since then, only appreciative posts are put up on its wall, or sometimes a prior information about a traffic jam. But no queries of residents are ever answered. At present, the page has 1,306 'likes', and some of them are waiting for the reactions of traffic police officials. When ToI tried to contact ACP Traffic Dhruman Nimbale, he neither responded to the calls nor replied to the text message.
