LUDHIANA: Densely crowded streets, congested and overcrowded alleys have become an eyesore for ward number 62.
The ward’s look, which has a population of over one lakh, has been marred by mismanagement even as the municipal corporation is doing little for development of green belts in the localities.
Presently, the ward boasts of only one park as the local bodies department has failed to provide land for the same.
1x1 polls

The gravity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that a gas godown has also come up among the localities, posing a threat to the residents.
Also, with the localities situated on the city’s periphery, they have not developed completely and hence lack basic amenities, including water and sewerage connections.
Sources said the localities would be connected with the main sewerage lines only after the 66-inches sewerage project is set up. Until then, residents will have to do without the sewerage connections.
Discussing the issue, HS Gill, a resident of Azad Nagar said, “The municipal corporation functionaries must find a way to ease out congestion in the localities as it has made things difficult.”

He further said there were several kundi connections and Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) had also conducted a special drive to detect cases of theft, but not to much avail. Talking on similar lines, Vijay Kumar, another resident from Jujhar Nagar said, “There is poor water supply as water connections are still being installed.”
He said even though the localities were away from the city’s limits, the municipal corporation authorities should, in the least, have initiated efforts to provide basic amenitiesto the people.
Meanwhile, area councillor Jaspal Singh Sandhu, said, “I am making efforts to address the woes of people. We are trying to provide them all basic amenities.”
Sandhu said he was awaiting installation of a big sewerage system in the city. “Old pipes would
now be replaced with bigger ones and colonies without sewerage connection will be included in the project,” he maintained.
