UK-based singer launches folk album

After hosting over 300 stage shows in the United Kingdom and with more than 2,000 fans on one social networking webpage, UK-based folk singer Kulvinder Singh Johal was in the city on Friday to launch his debut album ' folk star'.

LUDHIANA: After hosting over 300 stage shows in the United Kingdom and with more than 2,000 fans on one social networking webpage, UK-based folk singer Kulvinder Singh Johal was in the city on Friday to launch his debut album ' folk star.
The professional has an experience of seven years. The singer said that it was an achievement for him to have launched an album in his home state.

''The songs would spread traditional values among the youth,'' Johal said.
He said though he settled in Derby city in 1981, he was always in touch with the people of Jalandhar, his hometown.
''I was brought up during the golden era of Punjabi folk music. I was inspired by some true legends ' Kuldip Manak, Surinder Shinda, Mohd Saddiq, Lal Chand Yamla Jatt, Ranjit Kaur, Narinder Biba, etc.'' He regarded Dilshaad Akhtar as his all-time favourite singer.
Johal said that the lead single ' Johal Boliyan ' introduces a UK born female vocalist ' Raman Aujla.
