Madurai:
Madras high court has directed the state to consider and pass orders in accordance with the law on a plea moved by a man seeking to name a building inside the Tamil Nadu Secretariat after freedom fighter Sankaralinganar.
The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by M Selvakumar. The petitioner also sought to install statues of the leader in all districts.
A division bench of justice Anita Sumanth and justice C Kumarappan observed that since the petitioner made a representation before the competent authorities putting forth the same plea, it would be more appropriate for them to consider the same and take note of all the suggestions. Needless to say, it falls within the domain of the policy of the state to act on the suggestions.
The chief secretary shall forward the representation to the attention and consideration of the competent authority in the state govt. The competent authority shall call upon the petitioner, hear him, take note of the suggestions, and dispose of the representation in accordance with the prevalent norms as expeditiously as possible, the judges directed and closed the petition.
