Four sentenced to 20 years RI for smuggling ganja

Madurai: The I additional district court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act Cases in Madurai, on Thursday, convicted and sentenced four men to undergo 20 years rigorous imprisonment for smuggling 951kg ganja in Madurai district in 2023.
The case of the prosecution is that a team of police officials from SS Colony police station were involved in vehicle inspection in Kochadai on Feb 15, 2023.During the inspection, the officials searched a truck and found that 951kg of ganja was smuggled. Police arrested T Prabhakaran, 23, P Rajkumar, 34, N Senthil Prabhu, 37, and P Jayakumar, 36, of Madurai. They were booked for offences under the NDPS Act. The police officials, after completing the inquiry, filed the final report before the court.
Considering the huge quantity of contraband seized, the additional district judge, A S Hariharakumar pronounced the sentence. The court also imposed a fine of 1 lakh each on them.
