HC: Demolish dilapidated overhead water tank in Ramnad
Madurai: The Madras high court on Tuesday directed the authorities to take steps to demolish an overhead water tank which is in a dilapidated condition at Thiruvadanai in Ramanathapuram district.
The court passed the order on a public interest litigation filed by I Kalanthar Ashik Ahamed, an advocate. The petitioner stated that the water tank with capacity of 30,000 litres is situated at Anna Nagar in Thiruvadanai. It was constructed 30 years ago. The tank is presently in a dilapidated condition and is posing a threat to the people using the pathway nearby.
He had submitted a representation to the authorities seeking to demolish the tank and construct a new one. However, the same was not considered. Hence, the petitioner moved the Madurai bench of Madras high court seeking relief.
During the course of hearing, the state submitted that the concerned tahsildar had sent a communication to the block development officer to demolish the water tank which is not in use.
Taking note of the submissions, a division bench of justice R Subramanian and justice L Victoria Gowri closed the petition.
