MADURAI: The Madras high court bench here in an interim order imposed a cost of Rs 5,000 on the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) chairman as the latter did not file a counter on a writ petition even after several adjournments. The petition was filed by A Surya, 26, of Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli in December last year seeking direction to the respondents to give marks to nine questions for which wrong answers had been given in the answer key.

She had sent representations to the TRB chairman on November 12 last year. But, there was no reply from him. Hence, she filed a writ against the respondents including the state's school education secretary, TRB chairman, director of school education and director of elementary education. The petitioner had written the Tamil Nadu Teachers Eligibility Test in 2012 for the post of BT Assistant in schools, which was conducted by the TRB on October 14.
When the matter came up for hearing again on Wednesday, the court was asked by the government side to grant further time to file counter.
Chiding the TRB's action, the judge imposed Rs 5,000 cost on the chairman for his failure to file counter and posted the matter to November 11.
