Madurai: A coach of Madurai – Coimbatore Intercity Express (train no: 16721) derailed during shunting operations at the Madurai railway yard around 8pm on Wednesday.
The derailed coach was restored by 9.40pm and the incident has not affected any train movement or resulted in damages or injuries, said railway officials.
After the train arrived in Madurai at 7.15 pm, railway employees were shunting the empty rake of the train to yard facility at Bodi Line when the first coach behind the locomotive derailed as four wheels went off the rails.
Additional divisional railway officer C Selvam and higher officials reached the spot and oversaw the restoration. TNN
