BJP braces for council polls

MANGALORE: The Dakshina Kannada district unit of the BJP is gearing up for the elections to South-West Teachers' and Graduates' constituencies of the Karnataka Legislative Council.
The BJP has won the South-West Graduates' constituency four times since it was set up in 1988 and the Teachers' constituency thrice.
Party candidate K Sanjeeva Shetty lost the maiden election to the Teachers' constituency in 1988 by a margin of 44 votes.
K Padmanabha Kottari, president of the district unit of BJP, in a release stated that the party has nominated sitting MLCs Ganesh Karnik and DH Shankara Murthy for the Teachers' and Graduates constituencies, respectively.
