Case booked against SDPI leaders on charges of inciting riots

Udupi: Udupi town police booked two separate cases against leaders of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) on charges of inciting riots. Based on a complaint by Bharatesh, PSI of Udupi town police, a case was registered against SDPI state general secretary BR Bhaskar Prasad, district president Shahid Ali, state general secretary Apsar Kodlipete and state secretary Riyaz Kadumbu.
The complainant stated that he received a video clipping in which SDPI leaders were seen addressing the media and informing that they did not seek permission from the district superintendent of police for the rally and instead only provided information. The SDPI leaders also warned of a massive protest if the police failed to provide security arrangements.
The complainant further stated that the accused leaders misled the public by spreading false information and attempting to provoke people. Following this, a case was registered under sections 189, 62, 353(2) of the BNS.
Meanwhile, in another complaint against Apsar Kodlipete, complainant Gopalakrishna Jogi, PSI of Udupi Town police station, stated that he received a video clipping on social media in which Apsar Kodlipete made statements aimed at disturbing public peace. According to the complainant, the accused said that the Ambedkar March for Social Justice of the party commenced from the premises of Vidhana Soudha in Dec 2023.
"The march traversed 10 districts, raising awareness through meaningful slogans, street plays, and revolutionary songs. The march will now culminate with the Chalo Belagavi - Ambedkar March. Despite writing to senior officials of the districts through which the jatha passes, why is Udupi police opposing it? Take necessary initiatives before activists from all districts of the state stage a sit-in protest in front of your office in Udupi," the complainant said, quoting the accused.
"The statement made by Kodlipete is aimed at disturbing public peace and order by spreading false information, inciting the public to join unlawful gatherings, and provoking criminal activities," the complainant stated. A case was registered under sections 189, 57 of BNS.
