MCC launches drive to boost property tax collection
Mangaluru: In a bid to enhance revenue, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) launched a campaign to strengthen property tax collection. A campaign vehicle was flagged off recently, and the corporation planned to conduct drives to collect pending dues.MCC commissioner Ravichandra Naik said that the SAS property tax will be collected with a 3% hike as per govt order. He requested people to pay property tax every year on time without failure. Based on the market value of 2023-24, the MCC hikes property tax by 3% every year. For 2025-26, as per the directions of the administrator and deputy commissioner, Darshan HV, the city corporation will collect property tax with a 3% hike, the commissioner said.
People need not visit the MCC office to pay the property tax, he said. "Sitting in your house, property owners may pay the tax using the online link or may visit the Karnataka One centres. If you pay the property tax on time every year, the MCC will be able to undertake various development works in the city. Hence, people should cooperate by joining hands with the MCC for the overall development of the city," he said. The commissioner noted that several property owners in the city have not paid previous years' dues towards the property taxes. He said that the city corporation will have to commence a drive to collect all pending dues."People should pay the dues of previous years immediately to avoid any action as per law," he added.According to officials, the city has 2.2 lakh properties in 60 wards, and the number of properties varies periodically depending on additions and deletions. The city corporation began a ward-wise survey in the first week of Jan to ascertain the exact number of properties and thereby improve revenue collection.
