Hike ESIC salary threshhold: Suvarna
Udupi: MLA Yashpal Suvarna approached the Union govt requesting an increase in the salary ceiling for Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) coverage. During his meeting with Union minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises and labour & employment Shobha Karandlaje, Suvarna advocated for raising the monthly salary threshold from Rs 21,000 to Rs 30,000 for ESIC scheme eligibility.
The MLA highlighted concerns from private sector employees in Udupi, noting that the eligibility limit remained static for eight years, excluding workers earning above Rs 21,000 monthly. He stated that in 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's govt raised the cap from Rs 15,000 to Rs 21,000, enabling numerous workers and their families to access free medical services.
Suvarna said that elevating the current monthly salary limit to Rs 30,000 would support the working class, particularly considering annual private sector increments that correspond with inflation rates. "The minister responded positively and assured that steps will be taken to raise the salary cap of the scheme for the welfare of the country's workers," Suvarna said.
