Woman attacked with stone, robbed of gold chain in Manipal
Udupi: A woman was seriously injured after unidentified persons allegedly assaulted her and robbed her gold chain at a rented room in Manipal.
According to a complaint filed by Megha Manjunath Gowda of Kumta, the victim, Yogitha alias Yogeeshwari, was staying in a rented room at Shantinagar, Manipal, along with Megha and two other friends — Nagaratna and Gagana.
Megha, Nagaratna and Gagana left for their night‑shift binding work at a press unit in Manipal Industrial Area at around 4pm. When they returned to their room at around 7.15am the next morning, they found the door partially open.
On pushing the door open, they found Yogitha lying on the floor in an injured condition. Broken pieces of cement blocks were found beside her. She had sustained a severe head injury, was bleeding from the head, and was unable to speak. The gold chain she had been wearing around her neck was missing.
The injured woman was immediately shifted in an autorickshaw to a hospital in Manipal, where she was admitted for treatment.
Police said that between 6pm on Tuesday and 7.15am on Wednesday, unidentified persons allegedly entered the rented room, robbed Yogitha’s gold chain weighing around 8 grams and valued at approximately Rs 80,000, and assaulted her on the head with a cement block with the intention to kill.
A case has been registered at Manipal Police Station under sections 109 and 309(4) of the BNS.
