MEERUT: Two brothers, Mohd Bhura (40) and Mohd Samuddin (36), returning from Eid namaz, were brutally attacked with knives and sticks by a large crowd, including their neighbour, and allegedly killed over a Rs 1,000 monetary dispute.
The incident took place in Mehrmati Ganeshpur village of Meerut's Sardhana area on Sat. The victims were brothers of the village pradhan.
According to police, there was an argument between Samuddin and his neighbour Chunnu near a graveyard on Sat over a five-year old monetary dispute. Soon, the latter's aides arrived and started attacking the duo. Seeing them injured, a few men who knew the victims also joined in. At least 10 people were injured in the clashes." The dispute was over gambling," said Mohd Sajid, a resident.
SSP Avinash Pandey said, "The duo died on the way to hospital. An FIR was registered. Three key accused were arrested on Sunday. Security forces have been deployed in the village. More arrests will be made in the case."
Locals said that the attack followed a five-year-old rivalry between the two sides. The attack seemed to be premeditated, with assailants repeatedly stabbing the men to death, the locals added.
