Meerut: Two sub-inspectors posted at Simbhaoli police station in Hapur district have been transferred to police lines after a man accused them of illegally detaining him and assaulting him inside the police station, officials said on Sunday.
The action against sub-inspectors
Yashpal Singh and Rahul Kumar was taken after a preliminary inquiry by Garh Mukteshwar circle officer Stuti Singh found merit in the complaint. “Based on the preliminary findings, the accused officers were attached to police lines and a detailed investigation is underway. Departmental action will be taken after completion of the inquiry,” said Hapur SP KG Singh.
Police said Yogendra Kumar, a resident of Madhapur village in Simbhaoli area, lodged a complaint with SP Kunwar Gyananjay Singh on May 18, alleging that two sub-inspectors picked him up on the night of May 17 in connection with an old case, detained him at the station, and subjected him to “third-degree torture”. He claimed that he sustained a fracture in his hand and was threatened at gunpoint.
The complainant added that he had earlier participated in a protest by family members of a deceased youth, who was allegedly cremated as an unidentified body after a road accident on April 1. Two other sub-inspectors, Vikesh and Govind, had already been suspended in the case. Kumar alleged that since the protest, local police personnel held a grudge against him.
