Meerut: A 30-year-old man was arrested by Saharanpur police on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing his friend, who later died in the hospital from his injuries. The incident occurred on Nov 18 night in Govindpur village, Sarsawa, after the two men, both contractual labourers at a govt tank construction site, had consumed alcohol.
The accused, Vadam Singh, got into a verbal altercation with the victim, Vinod Kumar (28), over chopping vegetables. SP (rural) Sagar Jain said, "The two were drinking together when Vadam Singh, who was chopping vegetables, asked Vinod for help. When Vinod refused and began abusing him, Singh stabbed him in the stomach in a fit of rage."
During questioning, the accused admitted to the crime. "Vinod was resting inside the pump house room. When I asked him for help, he started abusing me. I told him to stop, but he continued, so I stabbed him in anger," Singh told police.
The victim's brother, Pravesh Kumar, filed a complaint against the accused on Nov 22. SP Jain added, "Vadam Singh fled the scene and was booked under BNS section 118(1) for intentionally causing hurt. After Vinod's death, the charge has been updated to BNS section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder."
