MUMBAI: A day after a 13-year-old girl died after fainting during a dance contest, a preliminary post-mortem has not conclusively established the cause of death. Investigators will now have to wait for a chemical analysis report which could take a month.
The girl, Anisha Sharma took part in a contest organised by former BJP corporator Kamlesh Yadav in Kandivli on Tuesday.
"We want to know what caused our daughter's death. Neither doctors nor the police are able to provide an answer," said her father, Bharat. "My daughter did not have any ailment nor was she unwell that day. Her death has come as a shock."
Anisha's uncle, Nandlal Sharma, said his son was with Anisha that day. His son told him that Anisha had eaten at a friend's that afternoon. "When she got on stage, she was there for less than a minute. My son called up to say she had collapsed. I informed her father," he said.
The organisers rushed Anisha to a private hospital. She was later moved to a public hospital in Kandivli. "By the time we reached there, Anisha had been pronounced dead," said Nandlal.
Ex-corporator Yadav said Anisha could have exerted herself. "She had told everyone she wanted to win," said Yadav who wanted to offer compensation to Anisha's family as he "feels responsible being an organiser of the event".A staffer at the post-mortem centre in Borivli said the findings have been kept pending histopathology and chemical analysis.
