MUMBAI: An on-duty constable sustained minor injuries following a collision between his motorcycle and a state transport bus on the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund on Saturday night.
Constable Sunil Shirsat (36), posted at the Navghar police station, was on patrol duty near Anand Toll Naka. He was returning to the police station to sign out of duty when the accident took place.

He was taken to a private hospital, and was discharged after treatment.
The police said the bus, plying on the Nashik-Mumbai route, was speeding. Senior inspector GaneshGaikwad said that the driver, SubhashSonawane (57), has been arrested for rash and negligent driving.
“Though it appears that he was not drunk at the time of the incident, he has been made to undergo a medical examination,” said Gaikwad, adding that Sonawane had told the police that the brakes of the bus had failed. Officials from the Regional Transport Office will carry out a check of the bus to verify if the driver’s claim is true.
