Domestic violence victim beaten to death by live-in partner near Kalyan
Kalyan: A 22-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her live-in partner in the Ambivli-Baneli area near Kalyan after she returned to him believing his promise that he would never assault her again, police said on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Sarika alias Rukhsar (22), while the accused, arrested by Kalyan Taluka Police Station, is Satish alias Guddu Waghe (24).
According to police, the couple had been in a live-in relationship in Ambivli for the past two to three years. Investigators said the accused frequently harassed and assaulted the woman over suspicions about her character.
A few days ago, the accused allegedly assaulted her again, following which Rukhsar left the house and went to stay with her parents. On Saturday evening, Satish reportedly contacted her and assured her that he would never raise his hand on her again, convincing her to return home.
However, in the early hours of Sunday, another argument broke out between the two. Police said the accused, in a fit of rage, brutally assaulted the woman with kicks, punches and a stick. He then allegedly attacked her with a TV and a water-filled copper vessel, hitting her on the head repeatedly.
Severely injured, Rukhsar was rushed by relatives to the Titwala Rural Hospital. Family members alleged that oxygen support could not be arranged immediately, after which doctors advised shifting her to another hospital. She was being taken to Central Hospital Ulhasnagar when she succumbed to her injuries on the way.
Meanwhile, enraged relatives spotted the accused loitering on the hospital premises and allegedly thrashed him before handing him over to police. Mukesh Dhage, senior police inspector said, "We have arrested accused under murder charges and further probe is on".
