JEE (Advanced) result: 5 of top 10 rankers from IIT Delhi zone and 3 from Madras

MUMBAI: Of the nearly 1.8 lakh students who appeared for the JEE (Advanced), 56,880 have qualified. Girls accounted for 10,107 or 17.7% of successful candidates.

The most striking feature of this year’s results was the performance of the scheduled caste (SC) candidates. While 38,436 general category students appeared for the exam and 15,883 qualified, which is a success rate of 41.3%, SC candidates recorded a qualification rate of 52.8%. Of the 30,015 SC candidates who took the test, 15,856 cleared it, bringing the number of successful SC candidates almost on par with those from the general category.

“We qualify nearly three times the number of candidates as available seats. With more SC students qualifying this year, we hope fewer reserved seats will remain vacant,” said JEE Apex Board chairman and IIT Roorkee director Prof Krishna Kumar Pant.

JEE (Advanced) chairman Prof SP Harsha attributed the trend to better performance among SC candidates. “I’d say the SC students have been more studious this year,” he said. As a norm, cutoff for SC students is pegged at 50% of the general category qualifying marks.

The minimum aggregate score required for inclusion in the general category rose sharply to 92 marks out of 360, up from 74 in 2025. Cut-offs increased across categories, with the OBC threshold rising from 66 to 82 marks, while the SC and ST qualifying scores increased from 37 to 46 marks.

Sreedhar Babu, an IIT alumnus and educator, said the chemistry section was lengthier than last year, making it harder for students in the top rank brackets to score. The cut-off score for the top 10 ranks, therefore, fell from 317 last year to 311 this year.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi zone had five candidates among the top ten ranks, followed by three from IIT Madras zone and two from the IIT Bombay zone.

IIT Bombay zone’s highest-ranked candidate, B Jayakrishna Srinivas, secured all India rank (AIR) 6 and emerged national topper in the GEN-EWS category. Sanvi Patidar, with AIR 158, was the highest-ranked girl candidate from the Mumbai zone.
